Our Approach

The philosophy at Way to Grow is to address the whole child with functional, sensory, social/emotional and developmental perspectives. This means we are interested in how the child is functioning in every aspect of their life and in discovering what we can do to improve function and quality of life for your child and your family.

Behavior is communication. We work to understand what the child’s behavior is telling us. Often, children act out because they are feeling overwhelmed and frustrated by task demands. It is similar to detective work to observe how the child is behaving in different settings to figure out what the child needs. Most of the time, there is a skill deficit or a sensory issue that we can identify and address.

During therapy at Way to Grow, we engage children in carefully chosen and therapeutic activities that help build those skills while carefully balancing the level of challenge so that achievement is within reach and things are not frustrating for the child. This “just right challenge” supports success, fosters a sense of accomplishment, and minimizes frustration. The child’s experience is that they are playing- in a highly engaging and fun environment. This builds skills, cultivates feelings of competence, and increases the child’s level of self-confidence.
